pdf/mp3/rehearsal mp3s – piano/SATB – from the Sacred Harp – words Isaac Watts, music Alexander Johnson (1818), arr. P. Amidon
You get a pdf of the score, an mp3 of the recording, and rehearsal track mp3s of each of the parts. Sung here by the Starry Mountain Singers. Years ago our sons’ band (Sam & Stefan Amidon with Thomas Bartlett), Poporn Behavior peformed an arrangement of Devotion, and more recently Sam did another re-interpretation/reharmonization on his “Lily-O” album. Peter Amidon’s arrangement is different, but inspired by those two arrangements.

- As sung at a traditional Sacred Harp sing
by Isaac Watts
Sweet is the day of sacred rest;
No mortal cares shall seize my breast.
Oh my my heart in tune be found,
Like David’s harp of solemn sound.
Then shall I share a glorious part,
When grace hath well refined my heart.
And fresh supplies of joy are shed,
Like holy oil to cheer my head.
Then shall I see and hear and know
All I desired and wished below;
And every power find sweet emply,
In that eternal world of joy.
